Working with Labor Pain:

Learning to Trust in the Process of Birth

This 3 hour workshop is focused on labor pain, and ways to cope other than pain medication.

It is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about coping with labor contractions, from women planning an unmedicated home birth to women who are planning an epidural as early as possible in labor, but still want to learn skills for coping with labor pain, "just in case."

For first-time parents, it is a great supplement to the Great Starts series, or Labor & Birth Only class. For experienced parents, it is appropriate as a stand-alone class, or to pair with our Better Birth Refresher.

We discuss pain as a positive sign of labor progress, and find ways to work with our bodies during labor. We use art, movement, discussion, video, and hands-on practice of pain coping practices. (Includes concepts from Birthing from Within, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, Lamaze, and more)

The class does not include any detailed discussion of pain medication options. Epidurals and other medications are covered in our other birth preparation classes.

This class is offered monthly at the Great Starts classroom in the Eastlake area of Seattle. It is taught by experienced labor support doulas.

Fee covers expectant mom and one support person.
